A New Show, A New Year
It’s certainly not even close to New Year’s Day yet, but the upcoming tour season is definitely on its way! For the last couple of months, I have once again become just a student, training daily to improve my skills in classical Chinese dance. As hard as my training has been, I know that my progress during this period will better show audiences the true essence of Chinese culture.
The standards of our show have risen every year, and the 2012 pieces are no exception. A whirlwind of dance-choreographing, costume-testing, and music-writing have been taking place, and I’m pleased to say that most of our dances have only changed four or five times…so far.
Well, just the other day I saw a choreographer walking down the hall, and he suddenly burst into a flurry of intense dance movements. After two seconds, he walked calmly away as if nothing had happened. I couldn’t help but grin. The busiest days before tour have not yet arrived, but they’re definitely coming soon!
